Downtown Huntsville Infrastructure Improvements

Geotechnical services included a design level exploration and laboratory project for each bridge structure.  Subsurface exploration was in general accordance with the requirement of ALDOT Test Method 398.  Due to high foundation loads, poor soil conditions and a highly variable rock surface (which ranged from 20 to greater than 80 feet below the existing ground surface) the bridge abutments and bents were supported on rock-bearing steel H-piles.

Construction materials testing services included earthwork monitoring and testing, laboratory tests, monitoring of driven steel H-piles, review of abutment and bent cap reinforcing steel and concrete testing.
